Fallen Tree Removal Cost: Here's What to Expect

By: albertaarb - November 17, 2016

If you have a tree on your property that you’d like removed, do you have any idea of how much that would cost? What goes into calculating a fallen tree removal cost may surprise you. Here's What to Expect.

What Goes into the Contractor's Calculations

There are four basic factors in calculating cost: size, condition, diameter, and location.

The contractor will have to cut the fallen tree into manageable sizes, which of course means that bigger ones cost more to remove than smaller ones.

The most basic calculation is the body of the tree only. That price doesn’t include hauling away tree limbs. You may have to pay extra for that, depending on your contractor. If the tree has large heavy branches, then branch removal becomes more costly as well.

For this reason, different kinds of fallen trees can cause the contractor to adjust the cost, like how a pine tree costs less to cut up and drag away than an oak. Pines grow straighter and are easier to deal with than a sprawling, thicker-limbed oak tree.

Location is a matter of ease of access for the contractor. The more difficult the fallen tree is to access, and the amount of work required in order to circumvent any risk to the property of the client, will adjust the fee accordingly.

Are There Any Additional Factors to Consider?

After the fallen tree is removed, there remains a stump. Stump removal is almost never included in the price of removing a tree. The contractor will require specific equipment for removing a stump, and of course, not all kinds of trees will make the same demands of the arborist. Different trees have different levels of complexity in their roots systems, and of course, older trees have more roots than younger ones.
